Description
This is basically just so I can link a mockup of next year's lines to a discussion I'm having somewhere else. If you're reading this, well, thanks? My expectation is that shortly Kotkaniemi gets sent to the AHL but comes back next year ready to play 1c. I anticipate that Suzuki earns at least a nine game look next year and that Poehling does as well. Alzner gets buried and stays buried to free up roster space since I can't imagine anyone taking him off waivers. I also expect the Habs to draft around 5-8th at the draft - the run they're on now relies on just too many guys playing above their head and might get derailed by the next serious injury they suffer. I expect that by year's end Andrew Shaw has had one concussion too many and retires. Jeff Petry gets traded somewhere, sometimes. Perhaps at the draft to help the Habs move up in the range to get Broberg, perhaps at the trade deadline. De La Rose also ends up moving.

What this doesn't allow for is Bergy's June blockbuster - God only knows what that'll be - and it doesn't reflect any UFA signings. I don't expect the Habs to be in the hunt for any major UFAS this year. Year after next, maybe. This team is closer to being a contender than they are now and when they're closer to being a contender they'll have room to sign the UFAs that suddenly recall how much they love Rue St. Catherines.

Someone, somewhere. He's the Habs most valuable trade chip other than Tatar, who I think they're going to hang on to.

I think Petry would bring in a second at best, but maybe not

Yeah, I don't think he'll go for much in the way of immediate help but a first, a second or two, maybe. Maybe as part of a package to move up in the draft? He's a point a game player so far this year playing above his head on a not unreasonable contract, so he'll have value in trade. The difference between a late round 1st and an early 2nd is not all that much sometimes, you know?

This summer, I wouldve thought Kotkaniemi was at lease 3 years away from playing in the NHL.

What a pleasant surprise he has been.

I think he's at most one year away from taking over as 1C - or being able. I also expect Claude would play the top 2 lines interchangeably. That 2nd line is a pleasant surprise this year.
