Probably not. I think now he's down to a pace for just 41... but he played a Beagle-like role last year in Vancouver, with 70% defensive zone starts, and he does okay on faceoffs. I don't think he clears waivers, now that maybe a few more teams have noticed those things, and he's showing a little bit of skill.

Don't think Wilson's cap hit goes away during a suspension. He doesn't get the money, but I think the team still pays it. So Nyquist doesn't fit in Burakovsky's spot without retention. Of course, Detroit is probably fine retaining as much salary as they're allowed to retain, if they can swap a 29 year old pending UFA with 239 career points for a 23 year old pending RFA with 120. I just don't understand why you've got the Caps throwing in picks to do it. Like... yeah, Nyquist has hit 22 even strength goals. Once. As a top line player. Burakovsky has hit 17 once, as a middle six guy. If each side needs a change of scenery and Ovechkin's production of 3 points in 2 games without Wilson is worrying you, and the Caps can re-sign Nyquist cheaper than they can extend Burakovsky, then it makes sense, but I don't see any of those conditions.

Burakovsky put up two points in game five to help eliminate the lightning. Added four more in the finals. If Connolly isn't a good enough complimentary wing for the top line, any of Burakovsky, Vrana, Smith-Pelly, Shumakov or Jaskin might fit. Yes, Nyquist is proven. But he's also turning thirty and signing elsewhere next summer. I still see a bigger team question mark at backup goalie. Burakovsky, Connolly, and Wilson were within a thousandth of each other on even strength points per sixty last year, in the regular season, when Bura and Connolly didn't play with Ovechkin or Kuznetsov. So I think offensively Burakovsky and Connolly are each better than Tom Wilson. Could be fun to see what they do there, the next month or so.

Well, I made this yesterday morning, wayyyy before the PIT game. No way Dowd still goes near 40. And while Bura came alive in game 7, he hasn't been as good as he can be. Its 3M we could use better elsewhere to boost the team

13 goals for... Burakovsky: 0 points
+6 goals for/against... Burakovsky: 0
He is 100% on faceoffs though, 1-for-1

Injury prone 3rd liner.
