Quoting: IslesFan9
No money is saved buying out Ladd. The last thing we need to do is pay him for the next 10 years not to play for us.
Same goes for the Boychuk buyout. We save 5m+ in 19-20, but in 20-21 and 21-22 when we need to pay Barzal, Boychuk's buyout Cap Hit is actually 5.7m per season... that's a big chunk of the available CAP for Barzal.
Honestly, best thing the Isles can do this year is stand pat and use this coming season as an evaluation year for Lou and Trotz to see what they have. Only trades that should be made are for Duchene (if price is right and NYI feel he will sign long term) or if Panarin actually becomes available on the trade market. Maybe a trade for a LD if one become available - I don't see Hickey as a 2nd pair D-man and I think our right side with Pulock, Boychuk and Mayfield will be fine. Plus last thing I'd want to do is block any of our young guys (Toews, Aho, Vande Sompel, Dobson, Wilde) from joining the team this year or next.
Hopefully Boychuk/Ladd can have a good season under a new system and Trotz and we can find takers for them at the deadline - Teams looking for veteran presence for playoff run type situations.
Then next offseason we make a splash - Sign/Resign Duchene, Panarin and Lee, then maybe make an offer sheet for Matthews/Marner from TOR. And then resign Barzy the year after.
