Description
I liked the idea from Juice yesterday so much that I went with the same concept on a trade for Myers, with a little tweak in offering Carrick instead of Borgman and Trevor Moore (fits Celt's request for RD and C depth) .

I left out the Martin/Spezza trade, no that I don't think that's an interesting idea too, just that I don't see Babcock being overly happy with how Spezza plays the game (I could be way off on that).

I put Willy in at 3 C and signed Grabner for 3 years @ $3M. There are alot of young guys on this roster and a vet with speed could be nice. And it might give the leafs the fastest 4th line in the NHL. PLus Kappy and Grabner on a PK would be fun to watch

I traded out Leivo (yes, #freeJOSHLEIVO) in exchange for the rights to Adam Masherin - if we lose Moore as a center prospect in the Myers trade, then maybe Masherin offsets that (I saw him play earlier this year and he really stood out as a Kit Ranger..) I don't know if this would really work, but maybe?

Martin finds a home somewhere in the league I think?? I mean, if Reeves has a home as a 4th liner playing for the Cup, then I'm sure there is a home for Martin.

Thoughts??

I’m a big fan of these ideas, only thing is I feel like a giving up a first round pick is something that doesn’t help the future of the team and maybe we could look at giving them Holl, marincin or something instead.

Yeah, I agree that giving up a first would be a tough pill, but I also agree with Juice that if that's what it takes to get a solid top RD that can eat minutes and PK then its worth it because I think that would trickle down the whole right side and make both Hainsey and Zietsev more effective. given all the youth the Leafs have ( both in the line up and in the pipe line) if it brought back what is needed to fix short and mid term needs then I think its worth it.

Thanks for the shout out and nice looking lineup. Something tells me that if Nylander moves to C..then either Marner will play on Matthew' wing or they try and trade or sign an established winger for him on the top line.

My willingness to deal away a 1st rounder is usually viewed thru a risk/reward measure. I think trading this year's away #25 overall as part of a package for a top 4 RHD is a low risk move. Only 63% of 1st round picks taken outside the top 10 ever become established NHLers. The further you move away from #10 the lower the odds that you're going to find a guy that will have any kind of career in the NHL.

If you can land a guy like Parayko, Hamilton, Dumba, any of the Winnipeg RHD, etc. you are gaining a high degree of certainty that one of those guys makes an immediate positive impact (largely due to the trickle down affect referenced).

So if I can take a 1st rounder and package it with a young winger (our position of strength), and/or a prospect that the team doesn't have immediate plans of promoting...I pull that trigger
