Description
With the current state of nyr and Ottawa I can see that Ottawa makes this deal because if they just trade for picks and prospects the next year they do not have their pick and Colorado does. So attempting the playoffs is their best bet so they aquire a top 6 forward namestikov that can be slotted anywhere Vesey a 3rd liner with top 6 potential and spooner a great offensive top 9 with some defense lacking skills a good goalie prospect and a 1st still to draft for the future.

As for the Calgary trade they want some top 6 forwards so nyr provides a consistant 50-60 point winger that has been a top line player for last 3-4 years but only has 1 year left so the pick will make up for lost value if he goes to free agency and a mid aged forward that just put up 25 goals in not a full season and is a solid 2nd line center that can go on wing if need be at age 25.

If we don't have our first next year, why would we also give up ours this year which is extremely likely to be better than next year's. The value isn't horrible but it makes no sense to trade our highest pick in 17 years. I get it they don't wanna be bad next year but you don't give up a top pick like that
