Description
Draft Day
Pelech Trade: Isles have way too many lefties ready to break out. Mainly looking for a team that sees Pelech as a guy locked up on a cheap contract to add some depth.

Hanifin Trade: Basis of this trade is that the Canes get a 40 goal scorer, that they need desperately, for a player that would fit perfectly with the Isles. Some other moving pieces due to Hanifin being a lefty, young and full of potential include a former Top 5 pick, with a killer shot, that needs a change of scenery and a 2nd. I gave him the exact same contract that Gostisbehere signed.

Moving Up: RD Is going to be a need in the draft, I love Dobson and think he's going 7th in my mock. History shows moving up 5 spots in the early 1st costs about a 1st, 3rd and 7th
So at 7 the Isles select Dobson and at 12 the Isles take Kotkaniemi

So the Isles finish off the 1st round taking Dobson and Kotkaniemi. Along 3 more picks for the rest of the draft (2nd, 4th, 5th round)

Free Agency
Nelson Offer-Sheeted: It's time he gets off this team, it's been rumored offer-sheets are going to start becoming more prevalent. Give him his qualifying offer at 1 year, $3.5 million and hope a team out bids you. I'd say $3,750,000 AAV would be a fair salary resulting in 1st and a 3rd round picks. I'd even be fine with an offer between $3.5-3.65 resulting in a 2nd

Pulock: He's going to be a star, but I think only playing 84 NHL games is going to hurt the term and money he gets

Bring Back Kulemin: He's gonna be real cheap, he's a great penalty killer that we missed sorely and can play a depth role

Davidson: Played a good defensive game with the Isles, very open to bringing him back on a bridge deal and always a possibility of trading him at the deadline on a manageable contract.

Emil Garipov: He's been linked to the Isles, gave him a contract that Koskinen was rumored to accept with the Oilers

Let all the other UFA's walk: They either don't fit this team or are just going to command too much to warrant bringing back.

History shows it takes a bit more to move up that far but I get what you're saying. Moving up from 12 to 7 would at minimum cost 12, a pick in the 30's, and another pick in the top-50.

Logic is perfectly fine on most things, but a few thoughts:

            1) Don't think AZ is the team who would even consider signing Brock. They're nowhere near close. I realize they're a placeholder, but still. Maybe a team like WPG would be more inclined if Stastny walks and they have a hole at 3C. The 1st or 2nd round pick would be MUCH lower than AZ.

            2) Really don't want to trade Lee. He's too good and the Isles can't replace his net front presence, let alone his 40 goals. Too much chemistry on that top line (especially if you're working under the assumption JT returns),

Both things being said, if this was the line up next season I would not be upset. But definitely disappointed in letting a guy like Anders walk.

            1) Arizona was literally the 1st team on the list that had a 1st and 3rd round pick, I didn't do that at all thinking they might want to sign him

            2) I love Lee too, but our offense is good enough to carry on without him. And we have Otto Koivula's in the system, who's been compared to Lee. The Isles need defense desperately and Hanifin fills a major need at a lower cost than Lee will command when he's a 29 year old free agent after next year.
