The Leafs don't pick up the phone unless Arizona wins the lottery for this upcoming draft. A deal for Matthews would be something like Chychrun, Dvorak, Perlini and 1st rounders from 2018 and unprotected from 2019, and Arizona could really not afford to give that up. No way I see such a deal getting done between these two clubs for Matthews.

Plain and simple Mathews is not a trade asset. EVER. Karlsson deal would have to include a 1st round pick.

Matthews for Dahlin and 2019 1st (1st only added because Dahlin hasn’t proved himself yet). You could make the 1st conditional based on Dahlin’s performance as a rookie next year.

I am not saying my deal was fair by any means, I am just spitballing what the Leafs would probably be asking for because elite 1C of Matthews' skill and age is so hard to find. It is my understanding that conditions are not allowed to be tied to certain things, which includes player points (since secondary assists can be so controversial) or anything to do with rookies for fear of putting any more pressure on these kids. Because of the hole that a Matthews deal would create at center, I figured the Leafs would need back either Strome or Dvorak, but Dvorak is more proven and has had success (in the OHL mind you), playing alongside Marner.

I hadn't even considered that aspect of Dvorak playing with Marner previously. That would be intriguing from TOR side
