Description
IDEA:
STL has great prospects in Thomas, Kostin, Kyrou, even Stevens, Blais, etc. But they can't keep being ALMOST playoff team forever. They need an infusion that WON'T cost them all of their prospects (as other trades are showing).

Ideally, if MPac doesn't mesh well in STL, he's at such a cheap contract (2.5M) that he can be a prime trade deadline chip. Otherwise, you do have the cap space to re-sign him as useless contracts walk.

I tried to place myself in STL's shoes. It's always difficult. New market, new needs. Best of luck to your team!

Ok... the value for sure is there, but the Blues absolutely cannot trade Thomas unless they find a 1c. Currently he is our only shot at a legit number 1. However, if the Blues sign Tavares, Thomas becomes infinitely more expendable which would make a trade like this a no-brainer.

Isn't Schenn doing quite well as a 1C? He definitely shook up our office pool like a storm. 65pts in 78 games. I figured that's sufficient.

The retention is meaningless for the Habs, we have WAY more than enough cap space for that one year of Pac contract. Sobotka's contract is also meaningless, since it's only 2 more years as well. We've got the room. Only reason you WOULDN'T leverage your cap space is if you genuinely think Tavares is coming to Montreal. In all my teams, I'm assuming he isn't (I rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed).

So the only LONG term contract you're giving is Danault, a decent 40-pt player. But you're getting back Thomas (potentially our next 1C... if it pans out) and a first pick.
Honestly dude, it seems to me like the only deals you approve of are the ones that favour the Habs. It has to be a 2-way street, not 1-way.

You potentially fill one hole but create 2 more so ya MTL declines....

He’s got ridiculous chemistry with Schwartz, but I wouldn’t call him a true 1. He has like 30 points in the last 47 games and is pretty terrible at face-offs. Ideally, he and Schwartz play on the second line with a skilled right handed winger (Kyrou,) while Tarasenko plays with a legit 1c and someone like Fabbri or Kostin. Look at the teams that have one the cup recently, they all have legit number 1s. Thomas is our best chance at a player like that.
