So you want the Bruins to give up a good, but aging forward in Backes, a prospect with some incredible upside in Studnicka, AND you want them to give you a 1st AND 2nd round pick....for Kevin Hayes??? The same Kevin Hayes that has never topped 50 points in a season. He's a 2nd line winger AT BEST with the Bruins and you think that's enough to warrant the absurd return the Rangers would get? Not only would the Bruins decline this trade, they'd laugh in your face before you finished describing the trade.

The Blues are pretty enamored with Thomas; given their historic issues at center, I don't think they're going to move him for another scoring winger - even one as good as the Hobbit.

Backes contract is terrible, he is aging and cant stay healthy and isnt "Good" by any means. Hayes is more versatile and significantly cheaper. I agree with you that if Stunicka is that touted then a 1st and 2nd is too much, a 2nd in this years draft or a 1st next years is not out of the realm of possibility seeing that Backes costs 6 million for 3 more years until hes 36, he wont make it in the NHL til hes 36. Saving 2 million a year is huge for any team when you get same production. Also, Boston is in win now mode as they continue to age. Also a prospect that is not in the top 25 throughout the league isnt worth more than a 2nd line player who is still young and proven to be good. Im sorry but I disagree with you and believe that Boston, given the opportunity, would move Backes in a heart beat especially since he has a NMC and if there is another Expansion then they MUST protect him. That last sentence is the biggest reason why a 1st may go along with it, because they could lose someone very vital. Look at what Vegas did.

That's the thing though, why would Backes waive his NMC to go to a team that seems to be going through a semi-rebuild? He's on a perennial contender. Why would he give that up so that he could go be a part of a team that may not compete for a Cup for the next couple of years. He's getting older and he already spent a ton of time in St. Louis, where he obviously didn't win a cup. The Bruins give him the best chance to do that, and I don't seem him giving that up so that he can be part of a "retooling" with the Rangers.
