Description
Vegas trade is a little far fetched but if the ducks did get karlsson back that would be great... we should have never traded him...

Why is the cap 82M? The Miller trade is pretty bad for TB and probably impossible given that they won't have the cap to take on Cogs + Eaves... or maybe they will if the cap limit is increased to 82M (it won't). Also, Eaves is high risk right now. Why would they take him?

      W. Karlsson has had a career year in a favourable system. I don't see him repeating it, especially in ANA under RC. His goal totals will come down next season once his S% does. No love lost in moving him. Wiz was a bad return, but I had and still have no issue with BM moving Karlsson.

Source? I could be wrong, but I swear I heard it's going to be ~$78M next year.

      EDIT: Found it - https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1441136-report-2018-19-nhl-salary-cap-projected-to-be-78m-82m

It's between 78M and 82M, and the 82M seems like a real long shot as there are significant consequences if the NHLPA goes ahead with the 5% inflator i.e. players will lose a % of their paychecks if payrolls are higher than league revenues. Also, if teams end up with payroll that is sigifnicantly different from revenue, then the higher revenue teams will end up transferring more $ to the lower revenue teams via the revenue sharing scheme, which isn't great for the NHLPA because they're meant to be representing all players, not just those on low revenue teams.

No... I don't think we move our 1st round pick regardless of whether we make it or not. This year's draft is deep and there are quite a few fallers. We've made a bit of habit drafting prospects that have fallen out of favour throughout the year and then exploded the following season i.e. Steel and Comtois. Regardless of how things go down, we're not going to have a top pick this year, so we've gotta continue drafting those fallers and hope one turns out to be a beast a la Barzal, Patrnak, Boeser, etc. I'm a big believer in the idea that you can draft elite players later in the draft. I'm also a big believer that you have to draft your way to victory in today's NHL (trading players you've drafted is part of that i.e. the Vatanen trade).

The biggest change I think we need is a new coach. The team is stacked! and should be doing better IMO. I know we had a number of signficant injuries early in the year, but those days are way behind us. Gibson is an elite GT, Getzlaf is still an elite C, our D-corp, whilst without a true #1D, is deep AF. We've got a bunch of solid wingers with a scoring touch i.e. Rakell, Perry, Kase, Silf, etc. Even with a broken Kesler, our C depth is still in the top half of the league (probably top 5 when Kesler is healthy). We just shouldn't be struggling the way we are right now and I put it all the blame on the coach. I know he's the same guy that got us through that rough start to the season when we were missing 4-5 core players, but, I'm not giving RC too much credit. If Gibson doesn't go full god mode for most of those games we're a lottery pick team. Moreover, if RC used his brain and practiced 3-on-3, we could be in a better position than we are right now.

regardless I thought IF it does go to 82 I might as well base my GM team around that salary cap even if it doesn't happen rumours are rumours right

fair I get where you are coming from, comtois is playing unreal right now and I'm just really hoping we can get Mcleod or Mclsacc or maybe even Lundstrom if he even falls to the second round but I doubt that happens, there is a lot of good D and center prospects going around where our pick is and id rather have a solid prospect than trade it for potentially another Patrick Eaves (worst case scenario)
