Description
As kind of a throw in to an article he made Joe Haggerty mentioned that John Carlson, who's from Massachusetts, might have Boston as his #1 choice in free agency. If that were to happen it would give the team the option to trade Carlo for a top 6 RW. Mark Stone could possibly be available if the Sens decide to have a full rebuild and in this trade I'm predicting that Erik Karlsson gets moved before Stone so they have their eyes on a young NHL RHD and replacement RW prospect.

As for the salaries: Carlson could probably get more elsewhere, but if he's choosing his destination he will probably have to take less like Kevin Shattenkirk did. Stone is an RFA which gives him less leverage so he doesn't get as much as he could potentially be worth as well. I think both contracts are in the ballpark of fair but they have to be on the lower end of that area.

The Salary Cap situation would be difficult, but Krejci and Backes' contracts turn into modified NTC's after the 2018-2019 season concludes. If the team moved just 1 of them there would be enough cap space to resign everyone.

I don't like Quincy that much but I do think he's better than Postma and it's not realistic to get someone very good for 750K. He may get more elsewhere but he's just an example of the type of guy we'd be bringing in. Lauzon could beat him out anyways, but it's a signing to create more competition which has worked out well for the team this year.

I'll be doing the 2019-2020 continuation of this just to show how I think things could work out.

    Détails additionnels:
If Erik Karlsson is dealt before Stone Brandon Carlo should be an attractive player to Ottawa. He's not going to replace Karlsson, but he is a solid RHD.

Zach Senyshyn could emerge as a top 6 RW. He could eventually move into the slot vacated by Stone.

    Détails additionnels:
Boston moves a solid defenseman for a decent pick. Heinen and Bjork were drafted around where this pick will end up, so it could become something useful.
    BUF
    1. McQuaid, Adam
    Détails additionnels:
Buffalo doesn't have a lot at RHD aside from Ristolainen. McQuaid will have to go to a different team if Buffalo decides to rebuild, but I think Terry Pegula is demanding a winning team.

Fair trades, overall good lineup. I don't care for Czarnik on the 4th line though and I doubt he would take over for Kuraly, who fits what Boston does there. Also don't see Gabrielle being ready.

Sorry about that, sometimes my lineup glitches when I sign players. Kuraly is definitely the 4th line C... Czarnik doesn't fit better than he and the last time I checked Kuraly was in that spot until it glitched on me. I'm not sure about Gabrielle, but Anton Blidh is also a possibility if he is retained. I was working on short money so I tried to sign only the essentials.

Plenty of cheap options available for 4th line roles. Right now, I'd say it's really that LW spot up for grabs. I'm sure Kuraly will be back, regardless. Cassidy likes him and he's been very good there. Not saying this because of the big game last night, but if Wingels comes in and plays well, he may be a guy to re-sign cheaply for a 4th line spot. He is capable of playing all 3 forward spots.

Ideally I think I should have just resigned Schaller if I had done this in the optimal way, I decided to sign the UFA / RFA's before making the trades and was very cautious about saving enough money to make the entire mock work out. I think I could fit Schaller in at 1.2M if I dropped Gabrielle to the minors and that'd be a fair contract for him to have imo, maybe even more than what he'd actually get.
