If we can’t have a team i’ll Still volunteer to make the system work.... having a league that runs fir one season albeit successfully, is crap to all the other picks an armchair offers.... it’s as Eric cartman says...l trying to reach the young ppl.... “ super weak”..... you can’t eliminate future picks or else the game gets smaller in growth.
I don’t mind missing out on v3 as long as it’s done right.... a puny one year league is worthless imo and not connecting the rightful players with realistic expectations....even s two year league isn’t reaching potential.... the picks go out 3 seasons yo... you’re telling me that 3rd year picks become nothings?
I suggest more brains added to this situation... you can’t seriously suggest 1 person is going to do this with limited help?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanEHdian04</b></div><div>Just so i get this right are you're implying it's unrealistic because I haven't traded Karlsson and Duchene?
I see the problem, the team looks pretty grim I agree. This is just how I see next season's roster looking baring any blockbuster moves. As a resident of the city I cannot express to you how essential it is to keep Erik Karlsson. He is the only player the fans care about other than Stone, but in terms of popularity it's not even close. Duchene is an interesting situation. Me and many other weren't happy with how much we lost in that trade, but in the end we got a pretty damn good player. This guy is the best option we have at number 1 center, and he is expected to fill in the shoes of Kyle Turris. If the Senators were to trade him, the fans would be infuriated because you got rid of Turris for a guy that didn't even last a year.
Goaltending is sketchy, but I think Ottawa will play it by ear. Historically, Anderson has always had a down year followed by an up year. Its not reasonable to expect that trend on continuing, but there aren't many other options given the shiny extension Dorion signed him to this year and next. If Anderson can bounce back, the team is in a lot better shape than last year. The blue line also needs a blue line. If Karlsson can return to form offensively and defensively paired with the bounce back year from Anderson Ottawa will be much better at keeping the puck out of their net. Gustavsson is in the system and hopefully develops into a starter within the next 3 or 4 years. Chabot will also continue to develop, as well as Wolanin and Claesson. Boro brings a physical presence and a lot of character. Wideman missed all but 16 games last season. Throughout those 16 games he played he scored 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. Ceci is terrible, but they're never going to trade that damn pylon. The blueline was really bad last season, but it can get better this year, and if it does, Karlsson would be much more enticed to stay.
Ottawa actually scored more goals/game last season than they did in 16/17. The first line needs not introduction but I will throw out there Dzingle scored 23 goals and 43 points in this most recent season. White scored 6 points in 21 games too. If White and Dzingle consider to get better, the top 6 gets a real boost. If White isn't ready to play 2nd line C, there is going to be a big problem, because the thought of Pageau in that role is chilling. Our 4th overall pick this year has an asterix. If we somehow land Zadina, that would be stellar. Odds are we get Tkachuk, which is still great. The problem is Tkachuk will probably want to finish his education at Boston U, delaying some offensive upgrades for the top 6. Pageau as the 3rd line C, sure. Chlapik on the third line I'm also comfortable with. The bottom 6 is rather untouched. Still pretty bad, but I really liked Didi while he played here so bringing him back would be stellar. They're never gonna trade Smith even though I can't stand him.
As I see it, it is imperative Ottawa keeps both of them. The team can get better next season, and I find it very unlikely Ottawa would make any big splashes to try and accommodate these players, not really how they do things. While I understand this team isn't very enticing, but it's what I see the Sens being going forward. The moves I would make to fix it are a different armchair-gm team.</div></div>

You must factor in dumping Schlemko. Guys a fringe nhler and he’s paid over 2m. That takes up 1m over 4 seasons of cap room to buy him out. Not saying that’s a huge burden, but it makes the pick closer to 12 imo to be fair if judging value.
I’m not suggesting it’s a good deal to make, but I think it could be tweaked to take out the dump and instead add a B+ prospect to Mtl. Maybe patches vs #15 + Adam Mascherin or something just to spitball a deal. Seems better suited to mtl’s needs imo.

I agree, but if it happened it’d be a pretty compelling storyline. Every major media outlet would highlight the story.
I personally think Zadina is very good as well so it’s not a no brainer imo. A 3 “star” draft to put it into words.
Carolina could trade out of #2 as well for someone needing a lw, so I’d never rule anything out. However I agree that svechnikov should probably be the 2nd player drafted.

I don’t understand this. 2 major ufa’s to be with incompetent owner / gm doesn’t seem like a good mix. Why would ek and Duchene want to resign? The city? Almost every city has something nice about it.
I’m sure they’ll say “I want to stay” because they aren’t dinks who will ruin their trade value, but do they actually want to be back?
Goaltending is practically unbearable moving forward and that’s the single most important position in hockey.

It seems that this trade with Detroit is pretty much bang on for value.. and in a particularly deep draft year like this where I feel there isn't much of a difference between #3 and #6, it's for sure worth it for the habs. The only thing is, does Detroit want to do this? I hope they do.</div></div>
I’ve seen that site before, but they did that study 4 years ago and took in lots of older trades. It doesn’t compute anymore or encapsulate current trades.
Detroit could/would want to do it for svechnikov to have both brothers. That’d be very interesting.

If you clearly rip off the opposition in trades and sign the top ufa’s Any team can look good, but it’s more like video game good than realistic good. I don’t think there’s any chance anything in this mock would happen.
Maybe l.a. could be foolish enough to trade a top c prospect for a vet because they are hell bent on destroying their farm system for a slightly higher cup chance, but by keeping their 1st and drafting vilardi it was a change of metohdology as if they had figured out that bringing in deadline players needed to stop.
I’m on the lucic to Montreal trade wagon. He’d play hard for the first season and he’d be up for the Mtl bos rivalry. It’d make it interesting to watch for this bruins fan...

(I think Wahlstrom will be just as good as Zadina.)</div></div>
That’s actually a solid idea if there was a rumor of det wanting to move up.....
what if svechnikov was available?!?!? Would they by chance feel compelled to move up and collect them both? That’s a pretty deep epiphany scenario.
Carolina selecting Zadina and and Detroit wanting badly to get to #3 for svechnikov. Then Mtl ends up with wahlstrom at #6. Seems like everyone’s happy I think that’d be a good idea of a mock for you to make if you do armchairs.

Habs have only picked in the top 3 like twice in the last three decades. You don't pass that up. Zadina is worth more than the two players the other first rounders fetch.
I would also hold on to Byron, value to cap dollars ratio is incredible and you want more of that on your team rather than less.
Others have said Patches will fetch more, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right; I expect him to go for much less than we're all expecting.</div></div>
Really? I thought a a top 6c and top 4d would equal a 1st line lw to a team lacking quality depth. How has having a 1st line lw without solid centers gone so far?(patches). Seems like getting a fringe #1b center + a future #3 rhd would solve 2 needs. I mentioned that I think Weber is moved in a year and woo could play 3rd pair with Juulsen at 2nd pair.
You’d have to add in the value Weber brings back (1st++) to show this deal fully. I’ll make a 2020 thread incorporating the ideas Mtl fan have had.
Byron’s not going to get a 2nd imo. He’s not good enough for a top 50 or 60 player imo. Two 4ths give a solid chance at developing 3rd liner depth.
Patches is solid but after a down year and being a rental cripple his value imo. A sign and trade could be Mtl salvation, but if it’s a pure rental then Anaheim is a good fit if they want one last chance for the cup with Getzlaf, Perry and Kessler. They could just offer Ritchie + #21 for patches and call it even.
Thank you for the response.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>I think all three trades sell MTL players short. IMHO
Byron is hugely underrated. If he's only worth two 4ths, i'd rather just keep him. plus he's injured for 6 months so that will make moving him hard.
I think the 3rd OV is worth more than 9th and a late 1st rounder. Veleno for example has top 6 center potential and the late 1st is a toss up when it comes to landing a good player. 3rd OA is a roster player next year that can be a perennial 30 goal scorer (Potentially)
As for Pacioretty's deal. The players available with the pick will be what makes or break this trade. If one of the players MTL really likes is available, than maybe it works. But one thing for sure, take Deslauriers out. Habs not moving him in a trade like this. He had as many goals as Ritchie did last year and were all legit HIS goals and not lucky bounces. Plus he's a home town kid so I just don't see it. He's worth more to us than anything in trade.</div></div>
You could be right about deslauriers wanting to be kept, but the team had too many lw.
If you think he’s better than Ritchie and has more upside I believe you’re being a bit of a homer, but if you’re suggesting the team wanted to end up with both players I can see where you’re coming from.
I can easily take him out of the trade and add Benn in a heartbeat. I thought that was adding more value though. They’d probably take patches for Ritchie and #21, it’s just your squad had too many skaters.
If you are really against the value maybe they’d offer to take Schlemko with patches if they had the cap.

Just to get a point in here, I think Mtl trades Weber in one seasons time.
His actual salary becomes 6m for 3 years then 3m for one, then 1m for 3 years.
He’d be an incredible asset for a team like Arizona when his cap hit is 7m yet his actual salary is 1m.... so his age isn’t a huge detriment to his value because of the way his contract was structured and how he got his cash upfront.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Because Fenwick and Corsi win games, and goal differential doesn't. :shakehead</div></div>
I explained to you the difference in pdo led to the goal differential statistic. That usually resolves itself and hovers around 100%. Faulk had way worse sv% and shot% each year compared to nuge. That naturally explains the difference and basically means that nuge is on the ice with superior talent over their careers. If they flip teams it is very likely Faulk has a higher goal differential than nuge, so that statistic has no merit.
Faulk helps posses the puck more and with more talent up front would be a better fit in Edm than he is in Carolina.
Nuge is a fringe 1b c and his numbers might drop in Carolina, however he fills a bigger position of need for them making him the better fit.
Both of these teams win with a nuge for Faulk trade if they both resign and Faulk takes 6x7year and nuge takes 7x7years.
If you really believe in your mind that a Faulk for nuge trade is more unfair than the hall for Larsson trade: you know nothing about hockey, your current gm, or the two players involved in the swap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>I don't consider 40 points to be a "rebound" season. Lucic tanked in the last 4 months of the 2017-18 season, but prior to that (1.5 years in Edmonton) he scored 76 points in 120 games, a pace of 82, 22-30-52. Fifty points is a rebound IMO.</div></div>
That could be true but I was keeping expectations low. I meant to say over 40, which I still consider rebounding from his below 35 tally. To rebound like Boston it is indeed 50 though, however any type of rebound would make Vancouver the clear winner In this deal if they were planning on moving tanev to the highest bidder.
A 45-50 point lucic + pick #10 is an incredible return for Tanev and a spare part imo. No one can be sure lucic will rebound, but the chances go up imo if he gets moved. He’d definitely want to prove himself year 1 at a new destination so this is a smart move by Vancouver imo.

Right but over the last 4 years it’s a .65ppg c vs .52ppg rhd... that’s about even in production given their positions.
Faulk has much superior fenwick and Corsi numbers which are more important stats then what you contributed. He cant help his pdo being low because he plays with unskilled forwards most of his career. Nuge has had a much higher pdo which usually evens out to 100% but Faulk pdo is almost always below 100% but experts say it should usually work it’s way out to an even 100%.
I think they’re about equal assets. Faulk costs over 1m less as well and he’ll probably be resigned for the 6m nuge is making now, while nuge May go up to 7, so that has to factor into why I think they are even value as well.

I like the deal for mtl.
Lucic would play his ass off atleast 5 times a year against Boston and if the games head to head are spread out there’s a chance he sustains the pace for 5- 10 more games each time. If he played to the max of that suggestion (playing his ass off 50 games) you’d have the Boston lucic because he took atleast 20 games off each season near the end in Boston.
Boston lucic + nuge for those assets is an enormous deal for mtl and would probably give the canadiens a realistic shot at being a playoff team even if they don’t overhaul the defense.

I think edm gets screwed in this trade given Tanev injury history.
Lucic could rebound with a fresh start and be a 40 point checker, so his valueshouldn’t Be an enormous amount of negative. Tanev is probably worth the 25th pick or so imo, so you’re saying lucic’s negative value is worth the 2x 2nds or so to move into the top 10?
Granlund has almost no value imo, if he had value to anyone it could be Minnesota because that could give him a huge boost and make him totally different. Everywhere else he’s a middling asset.
I think giving up the 10th pick to get rid of 6m cap for a 40 game playing defenseman + fringe player is wasting the chance to get an all star. Dobson could be sitting there at 10 and the only Edm people who need to win this season are: Peter Chiarelli and Todd McLellan. Fans should be patient.... it’s not like McDavid, Draisaitl, nuge, Puljujärvi, klefbom, nurse or Larsson are getting old. They are the core and all basically young still.

#1edm loses every trade + constantly looking to save cap.
#2 nuge = Faulk, but klefbom > rask more than the 50th or so prospect from 2019 as Car prob makes the playoffs with these trades.
When you apply #1 to #2 it actually makes some solid sense though.

Do you honestly think that $17m or so you have is enough to sign mcavoy, Carlo, Heinen and donato in one year? Imo mcavoy gets 6,666 or even 7m. That makes 10m left. Will these players take 3m bridge deals if they all get better as is expected?
Personally if Heinen or donato were to hit 60 while playing hard i’d Want them to get long term deals and that 4m nash is taking up deters us from locking them in which could hurt us long term and make us pay even more for them in the future.

He’s a 1 year rental and have you seen how a similar det player (Tatar) has done for a different team? something tells me he’d only be Good if he was refusing to resign In which case you’ve traded Klefbom for one productive year of an older winger.... if he were to get extended he’d score 40 or under imo which is like 10 points more than Klefbom so it still doesn’t make tons of sense.

Kase is untouchable imo.... they like him too much. By they I mean coaching and management, so there’s nothing other than pick #3 that he’d be in a deal for which is overpay.
Should target good players who have the possibility of being traded instead of a guy the team referred to as the energizer bunny because he brings so much positive energy to the team and lockeroom.

NYI trade and off season
Trading Klefbom is foolish imo. Depending on sekera is like thinking you’ve struck it rich when you’ve found some fools gold. At a minimum he’d be poor half the year next season because it takes a year to come back from a knee injury and return to form. It’s similar to hip or back injuries.... major injuries are major injuries and sekera is about to turn 32 years old.
Hope Edm has 2-3 top end lhd prospects right now because it takes 2 or 3 seasons to develop a defender and sekera and Russell might be completely useless by then..... ufa is not an option with chiarelli unless you are happy with sekera, Russell or lucic’s contracts and welcome more like them.

Yes so if you trade him in v2 it doesn’t matter to v3 so you’d not get him back if you traded him in v3.
