Trade would happen at the draft.
If Habs draft a D than the deal is dead, if they draft a C or W (ex: Tkachuk) it's a go
With the UFA market probably having quality names at C comes july, it would fill an organization need

i think that MTL declines on the basis this years top 31 draft prospects are made up of 13 defensmen
its much easier if we draft top 5 to trade up our high 2nd round pick and WSH's for a 1st round pick .


if we get Dahlin this is potentially worse then the Alzner signing leaving us with high cap and no minutes for our youth who would all be fighting for 3rd pair .

we only needed a top LD when the playoffs were possible now Patches only goes if we get a center as per Sportsnet's noon show analysts who said
''the only way this deal gets done quickly at a low cost is if a center is in the deal that is or has the potential to be top 6''

until we move out Alzner there is really no cap or ice time for a top 6 guy at Muzzin's which is why your roster size is 27 not 23
