I don't think Colorado is in any stage to trade for the playoffs. I also think that Columbus would have a higher asking price than a 2nd round pick and a AHL defenseman.

Yeah possibly, I just think Colorado does not have much to lose and has the cap space for him so Columbus does not have to retain.
But I agree they could probably get more from someone else.

I'd feel bad for Jack Johnson if he gets dealt from a playoff team like Columbus to a non-playoff team like Colorado.

Avs wont be buyers at the deadline, they wont be spending good assets like a 2nd round pick on a rental.

IF they do any trades at the deadline, it will be as part of their long term future plans. Sakic has already hinted that will be their plan, they know they are progressing nicely and wont sacrifice anything for a short term gain

If they could get him that cheap then I'd say maybe, especially if they can re-sign him to a nice contract. If I remember rightly EJ & JJ paired up nicely for the USA at one point (Olympics or Worlds?) So might not be a bad move if they could get him cheap enough. That said, I very much doubt he's a target for the Avs, and they'll continue to build from within.
