Sergachev and Jeannot moves had to happen for TBL to keep Stamkos.
I gave him 5M over 3 years, thinking higher salary over term. Could be adjusted to 4 years if necessary.
Brought Geekie up right away - not ready to be a centre in the NHL, but with his skill level putting him on a line with Stammer and Cirelli will allow him to be a top-six contributor. Is he 100% NHL ready? No, but TBL needs another top 6 FWD and he's providing great value on that ELC.
The key for Tampa is going to be finding cheap depth - giving Arvidsson a cheap deal gives them a bottom 6 scorer who needs to prove that he can get back to previous form. Make it a 1yr deal so he can prove his value and go get paid in FA next year. Considering he can play in no-tax, sunny Tampa for a year it's a win for both sides.
TB has a clear need on 2RD and I think Tanev can fill that role. It's not a great contract considering the term, but he will be worth it for next year at least. Afterwards TB can figure out a dump / buyout if needed. I think his value in rounding out the D-Core in year 1 will far outweigh the negative of Years 2-3 of that contract. To me this team looks like a contender : Deep top-nine, top - end Defense and all-word goaltending. The East will be a gauntlet, but this could get them back to at least a deep playoff run.
Cuz the forward group sucks with all the cap space they have
I would argue that Hagel-Point-Kuch is one of the top lines in the NHL. If Geekie develops quickly that second-line is also elite. I think a bottom six featuring Arvi, Paul, Trenin, etc... is not bad either.
Is it a top-5 FWD core? Probably closer to top10. But you can get away with that considering their defense and goaltending. Personally I would rather TB spend on a 2RD like Tanev than a 2RW like Toffoli considering Geekie can likely be a top6 guy at a much lower number. Otherwise the FWD core is not really that flexible - unless you're trading one of your core guys (Hags, Kuch, Point, Cirelli) then there is not many pieces to add. Just my 2cents

If they’re not making a splash with their cap space this team is a fail
