Danault's cap hit is half of Marner's. How are we supposed to absorb that?
Here, let's do some quick numbers:
Current cap space: $19.9 million (does not include RFAs like Jordan Spence)
Additional Marner cap: $5.4 million
Quint Byfield's new contract: $5 million (conservative)
Resulting cap space: $9.5 million to spend on eight (8) roster players, including a 1A goalie and a middle-pair defenseman to replace Spence, never mind Matt Roy
Do you really think that subtracting Danault and adding Marner while his additional cap precludes the improvement of a squad that got blown out by Edmonton is a good plan?
