I'd be ok with something like this. My biggest requirement is that I don't want to spend that 1st rounder on a rental. Gotta get some value there in terms of a player with some time left.

I see Frost as a good option because I don't really think Philly wants to sell during this deadline, but I also know Frost is in Torts's doghouse. So this is a good way for them to "sell without selling" and still acquire a 1st round pick at the deadline.

Novak is a clear cut upgrade for us at C, but I'm worried he's gonna be the "bottom sixer that triggers a bidding war and goes for way more than he normally would"

I'm a big fan of the idea of the Rangers signing Kessel at the end of the All Star break and using the month of February as a "tryout" for him. They need some a scoring touch and he can be added for free. If he's still got some juice, he could be valuable in a playoff run (even if only as injury insurance). If he's washed, then he can be waived or choose to retire, no harm no foul. I don't see the Rangers doing this, so pencil in Wheeler at that 3RW position.

The other thing I don't really see them doing is waiving Goodrow. But I imagine in this scenario, they would waive him but let him know that if he passes through waivers, they would be bringing him back up for the playoffs, when there isn't a roster restriction.
