Description
These are NOT proposals

Formenton still disappeared, it's an off-ice reason, so the GM couldn't do anything about it

I don't think Pinto is worth 2.5 AAV on a bridge comparing to what other NHL forwards after their ELCs have signed but still signing him to that amount to avoid comments about it

Revert trade with Tampa Bay which would have kept Connor Brown happy so Ottawa would have re-signed him instead of trading him for a stupid 2nd. Then Tarasenko wouldn't have been signed

Not even sure what to do with Kubalik so maybe Dorion could have pushed for a pick instead in the DeBrincat trade (another thing that shouldn't even have happened, should have gone after a Top-4 D-man right away). We would have kept the 2023 12th OA pick and the 2nd (assuming we gave ABD package to get Chychrun)

Also, the Korpisalo-Forsberg bromance is cool but trading 24 y/o Gustavsson (for a 35 y/o) was infuriating... so I am reverting that one as well

Also, not a big fan of signing MacEwen so I make him disappear

Finally, not re-signing Hamonic as well

With the Top-5 D-men the Sens have and the goalies plus the 2-way forwards (Giroux, Brown, Paul, Greig, Pinto, etc), they should be able to help out JBD and Thomson getting more comfortable in the NHL. Sanderson would have been perfect for JBD who would have become a good defensive D-man in no time.

So this would have been my team, seems to fit under the cap too (even if we gave Brown a 4.0 AAV)

Gustavsson didn't look impressive at all here. It was worth the gamble with the roster we had going into the season to get another veteran goalie. Clearly Talbot didn't pan out but can't always be looking in hindsight and saying we shouldn't have done it.
Gustavsson gained confidence behind that D in Minny. Can't say he'd find that on the Sens with the D we had.

Note that I have been a goalie myself for more than 3 decades

I was at the 2018 rookie camp in person. I came out unimpressed by Gustavsson and called him overrated for 2 years. I was more impressed by Mandolese in that tournament

That said, with how he played in 2020-21 in both the NHL and AHL made me do a complete 180 on him. He is so technically sound, just very hard to beat on the first shot and had everything to become a quality starter

I didn't care about his stats with the Sens in 2021-22, the team was still pretty bad defensively (DJ Smith's signature) and left goalies hung out to dry. I thought the trade was stupid from the get go, a rebuilding team trading a 24 y/o for a 35 y/o?

This is the type of comment you usually see from non-Sens fans :

"Talbot trade was such a dud for the Sens. Traded the better, younger and cheaper goalie lol"
