I don't know what the trade would look like, but the premise here is that the Isles have five mainstays on D (Pulock, Pelech, Dobson, Mayfield, and Romanov) who should be around for a long time and then three more guys who are not waivers exempt (Aho, Bolduc, and Salo). They probably won't keep everyone from the latter group on the roster, so I have to assume one will be waived.

Here I am swapping one of them for a guy who is waivers exempt. The Avs undoubtedly get the better of the deal, but Fairbrother could actually crack a roster in the future if he can find a way to stay healthy, so it's better than nothing. He also allows for more roster flex since he can be sent down without any worry.

Obviously, the Isles should look into getting a better deal for either Salo or Bolduc. Maybe some other team will pay more (I actually think it's likely). But I'm throwing it out there. Certainly open to other suggestions on the trade.
