Tying up the Sharks last retention slot for 2 years is going to cost more than 2 3rds I think. They'll be saving that to use on an expiring deal this year and then again next year too. Hoffman or Labanc probably won't be moveable at all without it and they have no pressing need to trade Rutta this year.

Getting a 3rd party to retain is possible but 2 years is going to be expensive for that, which is why just getting SJS to do it would be the most effecient
