You mean the Karlsson that said he wants out of SJ, the one that, in regard to him, Grier acknowledged and understands that in order to make a trade happen they’ll have to retain salary, the one that only has two teams vying for his services, potentially one if CAR signs Tarasenko? SJ leverage is waning.

Now imagine thinking a 1st, a 2nd, a 2nd round prospect, a solid, young former 1st round d man in Joseph, and a 2nd pair (overpaid) defenseman in Petry, who can be flipped with retention for a solid asset, isn’t “even remotely close” for that Karlsson.

My proposal I feel might be too much. Josh Yohe acknowledged that the Pens actually were VERY close to getting him on July 1 and haven’t stopped since. SJ has zero leverage for this trade. It’s not gonna be an underpayment but it won’t be even close to an overpayment.
