I'd be shocked if San Jose, who are after all a small-market team, would retain anything more than 20% ($2.3 million) on Erik Karlsson for four seasons. And I think that they're looking for a combination of at least three top-level assets (first-round draft picks and A prospects) for him, and Owen Pickering is the only prospect in your entire system who meets that description.

Problem is no team that Karlsson would agree to waive for is taking him at $9.2M. So the sharks either have to eat more, or a third team needs to be involved which to me is probably only Arizona... I can't see Chicago wanting to eat 2-3M for 4 years. I think they're going to aim to be a playoff team in 2 years.
