Description
Hopefully Kent Hughes can pull a similar deal to the Edmundson trade but with Hoffman.

According to Arpon Basu, Dvorak will not be ready to start the season due to injury. This is a perfect opportunity for one of the young kids, in this case Beck, to get a 10 game look. Other options could be to move Newhook at C, and call up one of Farrell, Roy, or Heineman. Whoever has the best training camp.

I would also sign some grit from the UFA pool; I chose Austin Watson, but it could be someone else. This is purely to throw some meathead at Ryan Reaves with the leafs or Lucic with the Bruins. I don’t doubt that Xhekaj could take them on, but I’d rather keep him on the ice once the other goons are gone, so he can exert his physicality on the rest of the opposition. Would be much more useful. Signing Watson would also be inconsequential to taking a spot away from younger players (I wouldn’t want any rookies playing on the 4th line anyways), and he’s a easy candidate to throw on waivers and bury if things don’t work out. Literally zero risk signing, and a good insurance policy to deal with other teams goons, and when you don’t need him, swap him with Armia (who I would buyout next season)

I get the purpose of your UFA signing, but it isn't true it is a no risk idea and that no young player should play on the 4th line anyway.

Ylonen will become waiver eligible next season and can play responsibly. Not worth loosing him for nothing.

We already have Pezzetta to fill that role exactly.

As much as i like Pezetta, and how well he’s liked by his teammates, I’ve never seen him as an NHL caliber player. He’s also just a middle weight at best, doesn’t really intimidate anyone. He’s an ok 13th 14th forward. He’s a Tom Kostopoulos 2.0 (if you can remember him) lol
Although Watson isn’t that much better, at least he can dance with the heavy weights, and has some intimidating factor to him.

I agree I wouldn’t want to lose Ylonen for nothing, but I still wouldn’t play him on the fourth line, he’s not physical and plays mostly an offensive game. if I’d play him, I’d move Gally down and Ylonen into the top 9.
At the end of the day, Ylonen will be 24 by the time the season starts… he got a solid look for about 20games playing with Suzuki last season. It didn’t work that great, and RHP has already supplanted him in the depth chart. I’d try and trade him for a younger waiver exempt player that could help Laval, or just risk putting him on waivers honestly.
