I think Debrincat is a better player than Necas. Breakout year aside, Cat has shown that he can score when Necas has been shaky. That being said, we haven't seen him in a defensive system, as Senators fans are happy to point out they DJ Smith doesn't have one. I don't think he would score nearly as much as in Chicago or Ottawa (which is less than what Necas produced last year), and I don't think that the extra (projected) 5.5 Million cap hit is worth his production even if he rebounds.
FWIW I could see Necas being a ppg player in Carolina, or regressing slightly to 60 points on the year, but I don't think Cat would make more than a ppg either and again, the difference in cap hit allows Carolina to pay a bit extra for a good 3LD or even just sign a second line winger rather than trade for Cat.
