I think Sutter is overpaid, but he's a solid teammate and a great 3C who you can trust to keep the ship stable in all situations. He can be a 2C, but he's just a wet blanket for offense and will hold back his wingers.
Hutton is a great young puck moving D. Gets it out of the zone under control, never panics. Still waiting to see his ceiling in offensive situations, which heavily depends on linemates. His last season wasn't the greatest, but there were lots of extenuating circumstances that makes it hard to say there was even a sophmore slump for the runner-up to Jimmy Vesey in the Hobey Baker.
The point isn't about the Canucks -- that was just if you had no idea what kinds of players were being sent back. The point is EDM surely has better offers than cap-domesday scenarios of next-to-nothing in return for great players at fair contracts. It's not hard at all to come up with trades for EDM where they don't take a step back, add cap space, and even add younger talent/picks to restock a prospect pipeline that is looking a little dry. As consolation: veteran free agents will be no problem, they'll make themselves fit to join McDavid's team on a cup run.
