According to Friedman Oilers are looking for a forward who has some grit to his game. MacEwen could be an excellent target for them since he has one year left of a 925K AAV contract and he is a player who:
- Has bit of a scoring touch to his game (7 points in 19 games)

- Hits a lot of players (8th in the league in hits)

- Fights when he needs to

- Plays with huge amounts of energy

Ryan Reaves got traded for a 5th round pick and he has been sitting many games this year and has a more expensive contract while MacEwen has played every game after getting brought up on a cheaper contract so a 4th round pick should be a good asking price for him.
