He’s also eligible for 2.5 in bonuses if he plays 10+ games. If the team wanted to be able to ice a roster next year, Their cap would likely be about 2 mil lower because of the bonuses that they wouldn’t be able to afford.

From the CBA FAQ page:
Performance bonuses count against the salary cap; however, a team can exceed the salary cap due to performance bonuses by the maximum performance bonus cushion amount of 7.5 percent of the upper limit.

i.e., this team has 3m in performance bonus related overages, so they have room for Bergeron

For some reason, I am under the impression that any overages one year are applied to the following season’s salary cap. Am I wrong on that?
