Bear is not a "Top" D-man but is a serviceable/cheap placeholder for RD prospects (Thompson, JBD).


--> I expect the sens arent prioritizing a "cup run" this season but allow the core players + additions to find their mojo
> Hence the sens dont want to give up one of their promising young D prospects and opt for this alternative
> Thompson looked solid in his NHL stint in 21-22 / This move allows for Thompson to develop another year while getting some meaningful NHL games under his belt. Should be a full time NHLer by the 23-24 season with Hamonic / Holden most likely gone
>JBD a year or 2 away from full time duties, NHL games this season and should fare better as the team has improved in structure (JBD seems like he needs solid structure to thrive)

--> Bear's contract is easily tradable/short term while he is given an opportunity to add to his value in a top 4 role

--> The cheap contract allows for flexibility when re-signing Stutzle/Sanderson...
