people always say the pageau trade is one of lou’s best moves, and i do love pageau, but like … is this team not way better and more well set up for the future? it’s probably not worth re-litigating but it’s been on my mind these past few days and i wanted to make a capfriendly team to lay it out lol. probably there would have been more moving parts so it obv wouldn’t have looked exactly like it does here, plus we have the benefit of knowing the pandemic/flat cap thing was coming now, but still, 5mil for a 3C was a lot even pre-flat cap lol

It was easy to create space to fit in Toews, Lou/Trotz chose not to. Pageau is a unique player because he’s a solid middle 6 C during the regular season but he turns into a high end 2C during the playoffs.

Obviously this team is better, but they could have kept Toews and Pageau

yeah seems like they prioritized the better return over the better player, which is pretty dumb especially since two late seconds isn’t even a good return. like if the avs were offering newhook or something i’d get prioritizing the return but it was so bad that it barely mattered.

A huge failure in player evaluation. This is obviously just a rumor but apparently Trotz expressed to Lou that Leddy was the 2nd most important player on the team. It makes sense if you remember Shannon hogan interviewing him about Nick Leddy being traded and he said “Nick Leddy isn’t getting traded” lol
