Thanks for the feedback! Really enjoyed doing it and genuinely appreciate you taking the time to read it and leave a comment. My logic with the trades was:
For Scandella, they're going to have to pay for two seasons of them taking on his salary, so that's reflected in the deal. This actually seemed a bit light on the Blues' end, but since Bill Armstrong drafted Kostin, maybe there's some added value for the Coyotes (and only the Coyotes). I could see an actual Scandella-for-cap deal costing more, again because it's two seasons of salary.
For Barbashev, you're trading a single year of service before he's UFA, so the value is somewhat limited. Also, he's coming off a career year and seems unlikely to repeat that performance. He's a good finisher, but he's not going to shoot 23 percent every season. A 2 felt a bit heavy for the return, but a 3 felt a bit light, so I dropped Ylonen in there as a devalued asset who the Blues can possibly restore.
Pettersson has value as a defensive defender - his Hockeyviz metrics are not dissimilar to Parayko, actually. The Penguins are rumored to be shopping him to free cap. Alexandrov is a fringe NHLer at this point IMO, and the fourth-rounder is the 120th pick in the draft, so we're not talking about super valuable chips. The cap is the big loss here, to me, but if it's a long-term partner for Parayko at a reasonable cap hit and for fungible assets, it seemed like a decent play.
