Another crack at how Guerin might try to navigate this team thought the first year of three tough dead cap years after the parise and suter buyouts. I would be surprised if the Devils traded a good/decent prospect and pick 38 for a pending UFA. I also can’t imagine they would want to extend him as they’ve been pretty consistent in their search for players whose age lines up with Jack/Nico.

I think if there’s a trade between NJD and MIN, it’s Fiala or Talbot.

I probably don't. Would a deal have to rip the other way then? What in addition to Jost do you think would work? Wild would need to get rid of this salary (more for 2023-2024 as they won't be able to afford Jost, so compensation would have to be picks. Any realistic suggestion?

It’s a tough situation because in reality we wouldn’t trade him so it would likely have to be an overpayment. A guy like Fiala seems too steep of a cost for Minnesota but something like that. Maybe Hartman and a mid round pick but I don’t think Hartman is available from the Wild
