Description
After this season concludes, the Winnipeg Jets organization will be conducting a bottom to top audit of their team. Based off of this audit, if the Jets management decide to stick it out for one more year to ride it out with the current core to get another crack at winning the cup, they will likely just be making minor tweaks to their team. As you can see below, just a couple minor trades done, a UFA resigning in Paul Stastny, a big RFA signing in PLD and the younger RFA prospects as well. Obviously there has been a lot of talk surrounding this team regarding team culture. Many times and I know many Jets fans will agree, it just seems like this leadership group as of right now does not have what it takes. If the Jets organization decides to ride try one more time with this group of guys, it does not mean at all however, that changes to the way things are to be done won't be made. The Jets will definitely be looking at different team systems and different ways of approaching the game, as their system now is obviously not getting through to the team. One of the things I believe the Jets will explore this summer (if they decide to keep Schiefele) will be to move Scheifele to the wing. I explained it in the Evgeny Svechnikov trade but basically, Paul Stastny had made a comment recently about "getting bored of the wing" and wanting to move back to centre, as he was playing the defensive game of a centremen on the wing anyway. It was also potentially a shot at teammates Mark Scheifele, who has consistently shown that he has no care for the defensive side of the game at all. If the Jets were to resign Stastny and place him at centre, this could take a big weight off Mark Schiefele's shoulders and let him play his game (offensive scoring) without any heavy defensive responsibilities. At the end of the day, something needs to change with this team and although I am not gonna pretend that moving him to the wing will solve all the Jet's problems, I definitely think it is worth trying. If Scheifele was also to be placed on the wing, it could also provide more depth throughout the lineup (as you can see on my lineup, Mark Scheifele in the #1 RW spot impacts the whole lineup and allows Wheeler to play on the third line with Perfetti joining the top 6).

Détails additionnels:
Nobody seems more fitting for a fresh start like Kristian Vesalainen. Despite all the opportunities he has been given by the Jets, he has failed to make the argument that he may be prominent in the top six or even the bottom six. It simply has not worked out in Winnipeg and therefore, he is traded to a team that could use some younger pieces up front. I think at this point, a third round pick is the most the Jets can salvage from a team, considering his lacklustre play.
DAL
  1. Vesalainen, Kristian [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
The Dallas Stars take a chance on Kristian Vesalainen, hoping he can find his scoring touch in the NHL. The Stars could also benefit Vesalainen with the openings up front in Dallas, considering Radulov potentially leaving the team and Seguin and Benn not getting any younger these days.

Détails additionnels:
Despite Stanley shockingly coming out of nowhere last season and proving to all the haters that he is not a bust, he has still proven to be only an inconsistent 3 pairing d man. He has come a long way compared to when he first started however he still has major holes in his game. Stanley does not use his big frame enough to get body position in front of the net, he has poor puck management, he has proved to be an unreliable penalty killer and always seems to be missing the net when he has a chance on net. Stanley will be missed by Jets fans but in the end, a spot needs to be made for better players like Samberg or Heinola.
NJD
  1. Stanley, Logan
Détails additionnels:
New Jersey has consistently allowed 4+ goals this season and could use some more defensive depth. Adding Stanley to the backend could spice up their defence and potentially provide some surprising stability to the team. PK Subban is also a UFA this summer, so a spot opens up for the Devils.

  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (CHI)
Détails additionnels:
As we conclude this nightmare of a season for the Jets, lots of talks around the Jets market have circled around putting Stastny to where he actually belongs (the centre position) and moving Schiefele to the wing. This potential experiment could very well be a success, as Scheifele will still be able to be the prominent goal scorer he is, while also having less defensive responsibilities on the wing. Scheifele is a liability defensively and if he is open to the switch to the wing, could honestly benefit from it tremendously. If the Jets were to go in this direction next year, they would obviously have to resign Stasny and in order to do this, the Jets would have to trade Svechnikov whos position on the RW with Connor and Dubois is now being taken by Schiefele.
CAR
  1. Svechnikov, Evgeny
Détails additionnels:
Evgeny unites with his brother Andrei in Carolina. If the Canes play their cards right, Svech could be a pleasant surprise in Raleigh.

  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2022 (DET)
Détails additionnels:
Jansen Harkins is a guy who is ultimately never gonna get a great opportunity with the Jets just because of the log jam they have up front with all those talented, skilled forwards. Harkins is definitely a guy who could use a fresh start.
DET
  1. Harkins, Jansen [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Stevie Y in Detroit loves making these types of low risk high reward trades. Harkins is a player who could potentially breakout in a place like Detroit as long as he is given the right opportunity.

Detroit declines.

We're full on our left side and cannot give Harkins a roster spot.

Devils already have too many left-handed defensemen... and that pick is like #37 overall right now. No thanks.

Detroit has more wingers than what they know what to do with, So Harkins is a no go. he might be good but we just don't have many roster spots available. We are basically set top to bottom on our forward core.

I really like the idea of trading away prospects who didn't fill their expectations even for a minimum return (yeah, talking about Vesalainen, Harkins and Stanley)

I really don't think the Jets should/will be giving away Stanley and Harkins. I don't think they have the forward "depth" everyone talks about them having. In previous years Copp - Lowry - Appleton/Tanev provided a physical shutdown third line that was one of the best in the league. This year that third line has kind of dissipated. I agree Wheeler hasn't been great and probably deserves to be on the third line but in order to get the most out of his remaining salary I bet he continues in the top 6 and hope he regains some mojo he had a couple seasons ago.

And yes I could see them resigned statsny and he probably isn't the worst option to be on your second line but can you honestly say he would be a top six winger on a cup contending team? I think of Mini, St. Louis, Colorado, Vegas, Edmonton, Calgary all the powerhouse teams in the West Statsney wouldn't be in their top 6. Finally implementing Cole Perfetti in the top six makes sense but he's still unproven and needs to develop.

I don't think the back end has been great all year but I also think a lot of their problems have come from the forward depth running out
