I kinda agree, I'd keep the pick and just patch the spot with Bozak and even Galchenyuk (or take a chance on another young C that needs a change of scenery). KK was not a difference maker for MTL last season, Bozak actually would have been an upgrade so just patch KK's spot and hope Evans or Poehling step up.

The draft is in MTL and also one of the best draft ever. Why not suck for a year? If the teams is bottom 10 at the TDL, trade guys like Toffoli, Hoffman, Drouin and Chiarot for picks and hope for CAR to suck as well. Just imagine if we could get to players among Wright, Lambert, Savoie, Yurov, Miroshnichenko, Salomonsson, Nemev, Slafkovski, Cooley, Geekie, Jiricek, Nazar, Kemell, McGroarty and Howard. All elite talents that would have been top 3 picks last year

KK certainly was a difference maker in the playoffs tho

Agreed, I liked KK a lot, but he isn't irreplaceable and he isn't worth $6M. The real loss here is that MTL would never get to see him become the player he was drafted to be... so they lose out on a future with KK. But it's mitigated by the 1st and the 3rd and Carolina is shooting themselves in the foot with that contract in the short term at least.
