I made that trade because of the salary cap, that was the only reason (it also says it in the trade description). And yes, St Louis do need an LHD, so Maatta would be very much needed there.

If you remember in 2015 when Kaner went down near this time of the year, Chicago put him on LTIR, and by doing that it gave them a lot of cap space which they used on Vermette, Timonen, and Desjardins. Well, because there is no cap space in the playoffs, and Kane returned first game back, they were basically like 8-10 mill over the cap.
