Savard: Personally, I think he will get too much money and term, so I would rather stay away. I do however think that the Habs go hard after him. It's beyond him playing RD, he's also Quebecois and positive PR at a time when the organization needs it. This signing checks too many boxes to ignore.

Goligoski: If we're replacing Weber with a lesser substitute, it's time we get a puck moving partner for that pairing. Chiarot with Savard is not going to be the answer regardless. Not sure on value or term, so consider 1 year @ $5M a starting point, going lower if the term increases.

Perry: More than welcome back on a similar bargain deal. If he's looking to cash in, we'll have to look elsewhere.

Bonino: A replacement/upgrade for Staal. If not try for someone else affordable. Poehling is a possibility if all else fails.

Wideman: Per rumors. I'd give him a shot, and we have Kulak to fall back on.

Paquette: Also rumored, but I'm not sold on him or what he can bring to the team.

This roster is over cap because it is without trades. If we go this direction, I don't see a place for Chiarot, so he could be moved. Byron is also a candidate to be traded away (though sentimentally, I'd like him to stay). Kulak is our safety net on D, but we could look for a cheaper option to save some cash there as well. Altogether, that would give us about $5M towards trade acquisitions (or to account for differences in contract values of the players I've already signed).
Give this team a fresh start under Ducharme and see how they perform, then address issues through trade as needed.
