Quoting: Clement
Thank you. But can you help me learn about him?
I guess I want to know about the player. Who he is. His life, his stats, him as a prospect, and or player, why he's unsigned, etc..
This is just my opinion
Vitali Abramov is a very good hockey player, but the NHL is the best of the best, and it's not an easy place to get to, or stay in. Abramov got there, but there's just so many guys that are just as good though, so it becomes not just what a player can do, but what a player cannot do. Abramov is not suited for bottom6 roles, and isn't good enough for first line, so he's limited to being able to score well enough to being a secondary scorer on a team, or not making it. Ottawa has too many forwards that can fill the one role Abramov can fill. He was behind Balcers and Formenton who can both play bottom6 as well, and although losing Balcers on waivers moved Abramov up, there was also Jarventie, Sokolov, Greig, Crookshank coming up behind him.
Ottawa already traded away Lajoie and Jaros, so maybe Chlapik, Abramov, Davidsson, and Hogberg all saw the writing on the wall, too many prospects for roles on the big club, and returned to Europe. One or all of them may return to North America, but for now, they continue to develop in Europe.
I can say this though, Ottawa has made it a point to acquire high character players, so I'm sure Abramov is probably a really good person.
