Description
Montreal has had a great run this playoffs but this team still has glaring areas that need to be addressed. Scoring as long been an issue with this team, and while the addition of Cole Caufield has been been incredible, he can't be the only guy creating offence if Montreal expects to be a consistent contender. I see Bergevin addressing this issue after a (likely) Stanley Cup
final loss to a far superior Tampa Bay team.

The strength is this team lies in its defence and goaltending where Price has showed that he's at least a top 5 goalie when it matters most. With multiple draft picks at Bergevin's luxury, I feel like he'll be able to make a majority of the moves that he desires. Big steps from young guys like Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov, etc. will go a long way in the path of this team, although I still see Montreal as a fringe playoff team next season when the divisions are back to normal.

*Side note: Chara is on LTIR because his future is unknown. If he decides to play again next season, I could see Montreal being a very likely destination and then the addition of Vatanen wouldn't be needed but it's too soon to tell for that at this point.

Seattle Kraken select Jonathan Drouin in the expansion draft and are compensated with the 46th and 150th overall picks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft for not selecting either Jake Allen or Ben Chiarot.

Seattle takes a chance that a fresh start away from all the media hype will help rejuvenate Drouin's career. They'll be locking for offence so a player with high puck skills like Drouin could be useful to them.

    1. Garland, Conor [Droits de RFA]
    Détails additionnels:
Canadiens looks to add an offensive scoring threat to compliment their forward core. Conor Garland has been very underrated playing in a small market in Arizona, but has quietly produced good offensive numbers and underlying numbers despite playing for a defensive minded organization. Bringing him in to play with a more offensive mind set could prove to be huge value for both the player and the team.

For Arizona, this comes as a primary financial saving decision, but as a chance to reload some of the prospects and picks in their system. The main pieces here are the 31st overall pick and prospect Mattias Norlinder. In Norlinder they're adding a player with top 4 upside that may be NHL ready as soon as 2022/2023. They also add a 1st round pick in a draft where they forfeited their own pick. They also add Ryan Poehling who still has some middle 6 upside but needs some development time still but could make a bottom 6 role if given the opportunity.

Trading Norlinder is a huge huge mistake. Even for a guy like Garland. Replace him with Struble and a second if needed

There's gonna be a ton of suitors for Garland so you're gonna have to pay something big. You may think it's not the best to do, but it's not the worst either. Montreal already has left handed defence prospects like Kaiden Guhle and Alex Romanov (obviously on the roster already) so one of them is gonna be left on the bottom pair anyways. It's smart to use Norlinder's value to get something that the team drastically needs.

Even with Garland I'm not sure this is a playoff team, without him it looks much worse. And Norlinder isn't gonna help Montreal win next season or likely for a few, Garland will.
