I can’t see a major overhaul, just a minor one. If I see a big name being moved, it’s probably Geno to Florida. I just don’t see what a return would look like for him so here I keep him.
Zucker obviously exposed for Seattle. He had a solid playoffs and end of the year. He really laid it all on the line. I think Seattle takes him as a leader.
Pens need to add toughness while not getting slower and older in the process. Obviously other teams don’t want to get older and slower either, hence why I don’t see a Geno for young players trade.
Lawson Crouse for a pick. I think Arizona is sort of a dumpster fire and needs picks. They will probably look to get out of that kessel contract now. So picks will help them there. And they probably won’t want to pay Crouse after this year so trade him while he still has some value. Pens get a physical, young, big bodied forward who isn’t slow.
Would hate to trade McCann and Petty but with POJ knocking on the door, the cap space is welcomed to re-sign guys like ZAR, Blueger, Ceci, etc. McCann and Wood probably have similar values but just different players. Both are young, similar cap hits. McCann is more of a scorer (had more points in less games) and has the better shot while Wood is more physical. Both are fast but Wood probably has a slight edge in that category. I believe McCann has the higher ceiling though. Pens again get tougher without really taking away from scoring, speed, and youth. NJ gets more scoring and a defensive defenseman who is young and on a long term reasonable contract.
Pens also get some late draft capital for depth pieces as younger depth pieces will take their place.
The pens will have at least 40.8 million in cap space when Malkin, Letang, etc contracts expire. By then Poulin and Legare at the very least should be on the nhl club. Guys like Gaudreau, ERod, Angello, Lafferty, O’Connor, Zohorna, etc can fill in on the fourth line and depth so I can’t see them having a problem really going all in for the rest of Crosby’s career. Especially if the cap starts going up again.
All of these moves are made with the expectation that Sully won’t be fired because of Covid and they won’t want to pay a coach to go away in a year they lost a ton of revenue. To all of those who want to see Sully gone, I think you will have to wait at least one more year here.
Go ahead and rip it to shreds lol
I don't disagree with what you said in the description, but I think the moves you made show a disconnect from that.
Trading a 2nd round pick for Lawson Crouse is a mistake. He's not worth anything more than a 6th.
I wouldn't mind getting a player like Miles Wood, but it makes no sense to trade a very good defenseman and a versatile forward to get him.
Riikola and Ruhwedel also should not be moved. Both of them are valuable depth pieces who should be getting regular ice time on the 3rd pair if it wasn't for the Matheson trade and the Ceci signing

I don’t disagree that a 2nd is an overpay for Crouse. But he is similar to wood in production. He just had a down year this year, and that could just be from playing on the coyotes. I’d say probably a 3rd or a 4th/5th and prospect/depth piece would get it done.
As for the Wood trade, again like I said is probably an overpay and could likely get the Isles first back instead of the 2nd. But again, if you make a fair trade then the other teams fans are just going to go bonkers claiming it’s heavily skewed in the pens favor. Ask any other teams fans on here. They think every pens player is a cap dump and costs 1947383 first round picks to dump lol. But this trade is mostly a need for need trade. Pens need to get tougher but keep their speed and not lose too much on scoring, while also getting cap space and draft capital. The devils could probably use more scoring and defense help.
Riikola and Ruhwedel are a dime a dozen. I’d rather just keep the younger version of Ruhwedel (6/7th d) in Friedman and a cheaper depth option for the left side than Riikola so they can sign an upgrade on all 3 of those players in Ceci.
