Description
Before you rush to tell me that I am crazy, think about this. JT isn't getting any younger, and a decline at some point over the next few years is inevitable (I don't think it's started quite yet, but it's bound to happen at some point) So why not take a shot at Jack Eichel? If the Leafs got him, they could move JT to the wing and prolong his prime, even if it's just a year or two, by taking some of his defensive responsibilities.

From the Sabres POV, they could get an elite forward who is the same age back in Marner. If Eichel really wants out, Marner, a prospect who is already playing regular minutes in the KHL at age 1 (Amirov) 9, another solid prospect with top-9 potential (SDA), and a couple high picks should be enough to get them to bite and jumpstart their rebuild. If they want to go scorched earth, they could even rope in a 3rd team, and flip Marner to them for more picks/prospects.

    Yeah but if it makes the team better, does it matter whether Marner wants to stay? I'd miss him too, but I think it would be worth considering this to get the most out of the guys they'll have for the long term.

    hat does not make the team better especially in the future leafs decline besides marners doing wayyyyy better than eichel and marner may be better

    Marner is doing much better because he's a winger and he's playing with Auston Matthews. I love Marner as much as anyone else but Eichel plays a premium position, shoulders much more responsibilty on both ends, and is still a PPG scorer more or less.
