I don't know why WSH fans keep posting about goalies in a season that is only 56 games long. Unless you expect Samsonov to totally fall apart they probably aren't overly worried about it. Copley maybe gets another shot. It's not like anyone expects these guys to play more than 20 games. Teams will want to give their goaltenders lots of work to get the, back into it. It's been a lot of time off for most of them

Likely because of the cautionary tale on how Hutchinson nearly sank the Leafs last season as a bad backup and the season before they had to scramble to acquire a number 3 (Hutch) when Andersen and Sparks (bleak times) went down with injury. The moment one of your top 2 goalies is out for the season (especially if it's even before the season begins) you need to immediately address the issue or be real confident in your #3 otherwise you risk a similar thing happening. A cheap (can be completely buried) free agent signing like this would be a logical step to take to hedge your bets from a complete goaltending disaster.

this team isn't going to win a cup with a journey man guy or a backup. So I don't see what the panic is about. They need a true 1A goaltender who can play to win. If he's out for the year, then the season is over. Which is true for most teams. We aren't talking about 82 games. A lot of those games a backup would have played are probably shelved this year. Their impact is gonna be a lot less.

or in the event of even a minor injury their impact will be a lot more with only 56 games during the season

I really don't think teams are worrying about that at this point.
They realize if a guys out they are probably done. Backups really aren't the answer there as you can't count on them anyway. There are reasons they don't have starting jobs anymore.
It's not like anyone is looking at Anderson as some massive upgrade over Copley. If Anderson is what you have coming in after injury, you're already ****ed. why bother to make it worse on your wallet.
