Description
Petey gets a full 8 year deal under 9M, Hughes signs a 3 Yr bridge that expires with Myers, Louie gets bought out, Edler moves on to Calgary ;) Tryamkin returns, Holtby Demko 50/50 split, Ferland LTIR, lineup description, expansion draft: Lind, Rafferty or Holtby.

Petey- This 8.75M AAV is realistic in a flat cap world. While I agree he could get about 1M more if things were status quo thats just not the case. Taylor Hall a former MVP winger could only crack the 8M mark with one team and on a 1 year deal. Pietrangelo A top 5 dman in the league who previously could have got 10M+ as a UFA got less than 9M. Prices are going to be a bit lower, its a reality.

Hughes- A 10.2C RFA doesnt have much leverage, Quinn however does have some as him threatening to hold out playing games would be costly to the Canucks. No RFA dman in that category has ever recieved a deal over the 6M mark. I believe he will be the first to do so on a 3 year deal which will expire when Myers is off the books.

Demko- Unless Holtby is awful, which is unlikely, Demko probably is going to see around 25-30 games. I think we will see him get a 1 year deal, UNLESS, Holtby plays unreal and gets selected in the expansion draft. Thats the only scenario Demko gets more than a 1 yr deal IMO.

Louie - Gets bought out. While it only saves about 950k on the cap vs burying him it doesnt cost the team a 1st to move him. This would be good asset management and allow the team to keep stockpiling young talent in this harsh flat cap environment. The following year it only applies 1M to the cap and thats when Luongos penalty is finally off the books. Along with Beagle and Roussel. Having that 1M on the books will not be a big deal with that 9M in space opening up.

Ferland - I think the guys career is done but who knows. Players like Crosby, Mitchell and Baertschi have been able to overcome their concussion history. While guys like Savard, Lindros and Kariya were not. With the style of game Ferland plays, I cant see him getting away from these issues. If his contract is on the books it will make things challenging. The team would likely need to pay Seattle to take a contract or move money out another way. Roussel or Ferland himself would be likely candidates.

The DCore - It will be the end of an era the day Edler moves on, and I think that day is coming. The Canucks have too many LHD ready to take the reigns to keep him around. Besides he will likely command too much value still at around 3-4M. My guess is Calgary signs him to a 4 year deal at 4M ;)

The rest of the core is built from within from the 8 guys that are listed. Ive averaged the cap hits which may be distributed differently we shall see. While Rathbone or Woo could win a spot they also may spend another year in the AHL and the team adds a depth signing up front. Tryamkin coming back looks like a reality and Woo may be a better fit on the bottom pairing than Rafferty. The team needs a modern grit and nails type of dman there whos hard to play against and can play PK vs another offensive puck mover with defensive deficiencies. Who knows but we will find out this season if Rafferty can round out his game.

Bonus Overage - I see most Canucks AGMS not including this in their posts. Petey and Hughes will likely claim their full B: bonuses again and maybe even an A bonus on top. Juolevi could also add to that total so it could be higher than 1.7M.

Lines descprition;

Line 1 - Pure offense, need I say more?
Line 2 - Matchup line that not only can shut top lines down but outscore them as well.
Line 3 - A fast paced scoring line that can provide secondary scoring with energy. Good for OZone starts and out play other teams bottom 6.
Line 4 - A hard working checking line that can eat up Dzone starts and neutralize the opponent.

Dline 1 - Little man big man move puck good
Dline 2 - Whoop with shades of Tanev and Edler
Dline 3 - A lesser Chara with either a puck mover or body banger that makes the crowd go Woo

Expansion Draft:
7Fw: Petey, Horvat, Miller, Boeser, Virt, Gaud, Motte
3D: Schmidt, Juolevi, Myers
1G: Demko
Selection: Lind, Rafferty or Holtby

Id be open to exposing Myers as I dont think he would get claimed but only if Rafferty out plays him or if we need to expose him to meet the requirements which I dont think we do.

I think paying Seattle to take Myers would be a great move (assuming the cost isn't insane obviously). He's a good defenseman who is overpaid by about 2M. It would increase our cap flexibility considerably.

I don't think its a good idea at this point to let Edler walk without finding a replacement unless you want to take another step back. We're already taking on this year it looks like, so taking another one would be tough to swallow.

I think we'll have to move at least Roussel, possibly Beagle as well. We should also be able to trade Eriksson next year with one year left for the full cap relief without a 1st based on the Staal trade.

Podkolzin, Hoglander and Lind all stepping in is a big help. Juolevi and Rathbone as well.

So you want to free up a bunch of money for Jim in Free Agency? That would scare me a bit tbh lol. Myers is also Jims guy, him doing that just tells ownership he should be fired after the Eriksson fiasco and having to pay his way out of both? Wont happen unless the team changes GMs. Dont disagree on Edler as things stand, will get to see a full year of our young kids before having to make a decision. I am of the dying breed that thinks Juolevi can still do it.

I was thinking independently of whatever management/Benning dynamics there could be. Objectively, that's what I think is the best for the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Juolevi can do it (especially with a quality defenseman like Schmidt), but we have pretty much 0 proof of it right now. As you said, we'll have this year to assess.
