Obviously this is extremely risky, because especially with goalies you can never be too sure how they will do long term. But with how many contracts we have coming up, (Palmieri, Gusev, Hughes... Eventually Smith and Holtz/Raymond) we could save money by locking these 2 RFA up now. I want to have both of them on different terms because we do not want them both expiring at the same time and we do not want them to expire with Nico either we want to space them out so we do not have a super chaotic offseason in the future. (Also leaves us room to trade someone if we need to create cap space since their term is a little longer) The players might be inclined to do this swell to secure themselves financially, especially after this pandemic, they would likely feel more comfortable being locked up and being guaranteed a good sum of money so they will not have to worry about it if something like this happens again or this pandemic continues on for a long time.
Blackwood: I am not willing to sign him more than 6 years, I also would prefer no protection on his contract (i.e. nmc, etc, m-ntc) so if we do need to move him and this contract doesn't work out for us, but realistically, he probably wants some form of security, hence lets just say he has an 8 team no trade list on a m-ntc.
Bratt: Showed signs this season but was also very inconsistent, but this season doesn't paint the whole picture, Jesper Bratt is a work horse and trains like a mad man and is very committed (at least it appears that way on his Insta). Obviously this does not directly translate to a great player, but it is a very very encouraging sign. Bratt was moved up and down the lineup and scratched and had little lineup consistency this season. With a new coach a new system, and an improved team, Bratt could thrive, especially if him and Gusev and Zacha stay together.
Also going to sign some vets, and make the usual acquisitions I usually try to pull because this team is going to look to make upgrades this offseason. UFA signings are meant to be bandaids until the younger players come in and fill the roles, however if they thrive and workout, we will have room to extend them.
I also pray a better move is made to fix the defense, signing a bottom pair guy to help Ty Smith is fine im not concerned about that, the left side top 4 is something I prefer not to talk about but I do not want to speculate right now what we are going to do, but likely Fitzgerald has a plan because he definitely does not like what he sees on that left side.
LMK if you think its worth risking signing these 2 long term and if you thing the term is fair
Blackwood: 6 years, 37.5 million, 6.25 aav, m-ntc kicking in year 3
Bratt: 5 years, 23,250,000 million, 4.65 aav, m-ntc kicking in year 3 (the palmieri contract)
*Holtz is signed, but he will need 1 more year before he comes over*
First of all: You can't include trade protection on RFA years. I'm not quite sure when Blackwood is a UFA but I'm pretty sure Bratt is one in 5 years which means no NMC/NTC/etc. during that timespan.
I like the idea of signing Blackwood to a 4-6 year contract especially since there's really nobody in the organization that seems likely to fight for the starters job with him. This contract is to much though.
I'm not so sure if I want Bratt on a longterm deal since he really strugles with consisteny. I'd probably go for 3 years.
