I'm having a stronger sense that FA contracts will be 1 year for a lot of guys next year.
This is a bad year to hit FA. The cap being flat and all. Even if some teams do use a CBO, it won't be all. Not all teams make a profit. You got 7 teams who were in the red in 2018. You got another 7 teams that make between 0 and roughly 10 million.
The vast majority of teams are in the 40 to 10 million range. But if you are one of those teams, buying a guy out for 5 million is a huge chunk of your profits. Especially if it's for multiple years.
Even a team like TB. I think the 2018 numbers were like 8 million profit. Now you take the revenue loss this year and ask that team to buyout a guy for 5 million....ouch.
I know if they will allow a buyout there will be some teams that do that. But I don't see them all doing it. Maybe 50% of teams.
In general I think most teams not making a profit will cut back. Meaning less salary pool and probably a lot of players betting they can get a better contract next year.
