I like the potential fit as trade partners between Colorado and Montreal. Personally as an Av’s fan, I would prefer to see a Domi-for-Zadorov+ trade.
But I don’t think the extra NHL pieces are necessary, at least from the Av’s perspective. Colorado has 4 D on their current roster under contract for next year, Graves and Zadorov are RFAs, plus Byram and Timmins on the way. Moving one of Zadorov or Graves for a forward makes plenty of sense, but I don’t think they need Kulak back in the trade. Same with the forwards. Let’s say it’s Zadorov+ for Domi. The Avalanche would have 8 NHL forwards under contract, Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Jost, and now Domi as RFAs, and prospects like Kaut & Bowers pushing for full-time Roster spots. Even if they moved Jost as part of the deal, they wouldn’t have room to play Lehkonen.
If the trade was Domi for Zadorov+, what would the Avalanche need to realistically add to make the trade happen?
