Kind of a weird trade so I can see why people might disagree but this would be good for Minnesota since they get some pieces for a rebuild

Why has Dumba been included in many AGM lately? I mean...he's still young and can be a core piece for the Wilds' rebuild

To start a rebuild you need to get the pieces. Dumba wants out of Minnesota and Ottawa has loads of picks they’d want for their shaky future

I'm not sure Dumba wanting out is more than just a rumor that's followed his trade speculation, but I'll say this trade is way better than the 25+ Toronto made ones that have him going for Johnsson, a cap dump, and a 2nd, so thanks for putting a little bit more unbiased thought into it.

There is nothing from anywhere that says Dumba wants out of MN. He's just the Wild's best trade chip and plays a position the Wild are deep at.

MN has Suter for 5 more years and Spurgeon for 7 more years making a combined $15m and have NMCs (and another 13.5m tied up in Parise and Zuccarello). Expansion draft is coming. Wild are carrying 8 d-men on their roster now and have a couple more that are NHL ready or very close to it in the AHL. He's having a down year. Brodin/Soucy was an excellent pairing when they were together.

MN needs two top-6 centers and a goalie within the next 2 seasons. JEE might fill one of those center spots (Koivu's spot), and Kovanov is a longshot to fill the other one (he'd have to hit his absolute ceiling, but his floor is AHL/KHL lifer). They have 3 goalies in the system that have promise (but as everyone knows goalies are a crap shoot for development). The d-corps is fine, and they have an abundance of middle-6 wings (it's why Zucker is available for trade).

A 70p+ young winger is something MN wouldn't kick out of bed, but that's a tertiary concern. Kaprizov and Fiala have a chance to become that quality of player.

Absolutely huge overpay for Dumba.

Youre essentially giving more than ARI got for Hall, for a guy who will be looking to sign a huge extension heading into UFA right when Ottawa is looking to compete, and right after the ELC for the 2020 drafts picks.

This move would be absolutely TERRIBLE for Ottawa's long term success.

Trading equivalent of two 1sts, two 2nds and a 3rd for the worst +/- player (on his team) who is on pace for a whopping 24 points (less than Boro)
