The Fowler thing is kind of a stretch but I would try like hell if I were Shero
And I would try just as hard for Shatty

Neither Fowler nor Lovejoy are 1st pairing Dmen. I've said this in another Devils roster thread, but Pittsburgh fans wanted Lovejoy out since he started playing there. At times, he didn't look like he had the quality to be a NHL player and the fact that he won a Stanley Cup in a minor role doesn't qualify him for top4 minutes.

Lovejoy is there and we can't do anything about it
I think Shero wanted to make sure he got something in FA to cover the minutes that Larson took
Fowler is here bc we need some O from the blue line. And with any luck Shattenkirk becomes available and sees what Shero is building so signs with us

If this is true, you are in for another disappointing season. From what I've read, Larsson had tough assignments and a high % of DSZ. If you let Lovejoy cover that, your defense might fall apart. I don't know much about Severson. I always thought he's decent and young, and unless you land Shatty he will have to carry much more weight. Moore didn't strike me as too good in NY either. He's decent for a bottom pairing guy, but not able to carry the load either. I can't find the article, but blueshirtbanter had a post about how they don't want the Rangers to trade for Cam Fowler because his possession game is a struggle even on a good team. Maybe he is overvalued here. That D-corps remains worrysome to me and has more resemblance to Edmontons 2015/2016 than to any playoff-competing team. I don't know why Dallas would make that trade as Eakins is better than Josefson, but if you can make that trade work with smaller assets, the forwards look like they could compete (if Palmieri and Hudler can get on track again like they did in 15/16 respectively 14/15, that is)
