Description
Capitals is my team, but what fun is it to be interested in the league if you don't have a decent idea of your opponents?

This is my outside look for the Flyers line-up. Is it reasonable or do you - fans of the team - see other likely line combinations or pairings at defense? Who's got that special chemistry with another players etc.

To start things off, I generally think this Flyers team can do some damage in the Metro this season.

I did assume the remaining RFAs will sign, but I only used a one year deal only for the purpose of predicting the line-up. If it will be bridge deals or longer term, I didn't take into consideration. It will be interesting to see if Provorov will be paid as the 41p/+17 guy from 17/18 or the 26p/-16 player from 18/19. Is he more likely to receive a bridge deal to prove himself?

Sure, Hayes may be an over-payment, and I guess Patrick or Frost can overtake him at some point during his contract, but he's still a good middle-six guy, for sure. Speaking of Frost, is he or Farabee more likely to take a third-line role?

I know there are more talented players on the depth chart than Gabriel and Andreoff, but I figure it's better to have players like that being scratches in the NHL, with the talents having more minutes in the AHL.

On the blueline, Flyers have three great left-handed choices, all capable of top four minutes. Will anyone of them play on the right side instead? (My usual default setting is a left-handed and right-handed player in each pair.)

i think you did a fine job of setting up the lines as most of us expect going into the year. that final spot in the top 9 seems to be up for grabs, with names from Pitlick, Laughton, Gabriel, Andreoff, even Chris Stewart, as names that can fill the role. Rookies and younger guys also in the "conversation" can include Frost, Farabee, German Rubstov, Nicholas Aube-Kubel, Mikhail Vorobyev, et al.

The d corps is right on as well, although I believe that Sanheim will be paired with Braun behind Provy and Nisky, and Ghost and Myers would be the third pairing. My thinking is is that that 3rd pair can cause some fits to other teams 3rd or 4th line and can also be counted on in more offensive zone starts, as those 2 both have great offensive tools. Everyone knows about Ghost's shot and ability in the offensive zone, but Myers has an absolute cannon from the point, and also with his long strides and good straight line skating, he can make up for some mistakes or gambles he takes.

Overall not bad at all though here, I do think when it comes to the Metro, its Washington at the top, then Philly/Carolina either 2/3 or vice versa.

I would also switch Lindblom and JVR. Let JVR play sheltered 5 on 5 minutes like he did in Toronto and first power play unit.

Gostisbehere and Sanheim get flipped. I think it will be Frost or Farabee in that 3rd line RW spot. But when players of that youth and talent are added they really could play anywhere in the lineup. I like that top 9 but would be totally comfortable with experimenting with a lot of combinations. The centers are set up in proper order but who knows who gets #1 wings and who gets 3rd line wings really.
