The edmonton trade is atrocious for the canes. The stl trade is less bad but the canes still pass. The anaheim trade makes the canes defense quite thin so they pass on that one, even though rakell would be a nice add. To your credit that one is the closest of all.

I think Anaheim would be more interested in Rakell for Pesce and Gauthier. Hamilton is signed for only 2 more years and at a higher cap hit than Rakell.

I think "atrocious" is a bit extreme. It's a gamble, yes, but one that could pay off extremely well. Martinook and Geekie are likely middle six forwards, and Martinook is the easier to replace. Puljujarvi might turn into the stud he projected to be with a change of scenery and two studs on his line in Necas and Svech. Edmonton coaching has for years managed to coach players down. Carolina won't do that with him. The 2nd round pick also provides some protection. Geekie is the prize, but when does he beat out Aho, Necas, Mattheos, and perhaps Drury or Suzuki? I'm using center depth to swing for a home run at a discounted rate.
