This potential roster is based on Montreal signing Duchene. If this actually happens moving a center out to make room for Poehling really is a necessary move. The question is..... would Edmonton move Nurse and if so is this enough value going back to make it happen.
If Montreal does sign Duchene it will most likely have Domi moving back to the wing to play with him on the top line. This would leave us with a couple youngster playing in the C2 and C3 positions.
One thing signing Duchene and trading for Nurse would do is create a significant cap issue next year. This would require moving out a couple of older vets to make room to sign our RFA's next summer.
Required 2020-2021 Signings based on below roster.
Domi 5 years 7.500,000.00
Nurse 5 years 6,750,000.00
Mete 3 years 2,250,000.00
Juulsen 3 years 1,500,000.00
Vejdemo 2 years 1,000,000.00
TOTAL = 19,000,000.00
Players not resigned and cap space gained.
RFA's previous salary's 8,754,166.00
Thompson 1,000,000.00
Deslauriers 950,000.00
Folin 800,000.00
(AHL) Weise 1,275,000.00
(AHL) Peca 225,000.00
(Buy out) Mason 1,366,667.00
TOTAL = 14,370,833.00
This will leave the Habs roughly 4,629,167.00 short in cap space to make the signings noted above for 2020-21. This will require some further moves by management. Moving Alzners contract would help significantly, packaging Alzner with a young roster player like Armia or Lehkonen and a 2nd round pick should get this done next year when Alzner only has two years remaining n his contract.
The following year will see changes in the roster and will also see a number of RFA's requiring new contracts. That being said, roughly 39,000,000.00 in cap space and players like Caufield, Suzuki, Fluery and Brooke and possibly Romanov ready to make their jump to the big league on team friendly contracts should make things doable.
