If they want to keep the AAV's down a bit they'll probably have to keep the term shorter.

K... But if you want to walk them to their UFA years then I guess this is the way to go... I'd rather buy a few UFA years at a cost than watch 2 franchise players walk to free agency right in the prime of their careers.

Oh I would too but what else do you do, the market has changed and these guys want to cash in twice.

Like I said... Big term to Connor, bridge deal to Laine... Laine gets his cash-in twice... Connor still 29 or 30 at the end of his deal. The Toronto Maple Leafs are not an accurate model to go by. The rest of the league does not operate in such a manner.
